A critical look at education and foreign educational aid in west african countries

The book attempts to consider the major issues involved in nation-building through education and to present a broad view of foreign educational aid and of development prospects. The book comprises three parts: (1) the development of African education, including a historical overview, the relevance of the school curriculum, and the sparse attention given to rural education; (2) the examination of areas where outside assistance is needed and the design of a functional aid program that would put the countries in a better position to realize their goals; and (3) a discussion of the promise of West African education, giving the conclusions of the study and the suggested recommendations.
